Under the previous Administration, treatment of our returning and past American heroes was an abomination. American heroes being charged for their own medical treatment. American heroes being hospitalized in third-world conditions, but right here in the United States. American heroes being treated with contempt instead of respect, with apathy instead of awe, with denial of sorely-needed physical and mental health rehabilitation. My late father was a veteran of the second World War – and I vow that every patriotic, country-serving, brave and selfless American soldier – from the outbreak of battle in Concord and Lexington to today’s military conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan: is a true American hero. For there can be no greater dedication than risking that ultimate sacrifice to one’s country. Those heroes of today must be treated as such – not only during service but after discharge as well. I’m pleased that the Obama Administration has already begun to make good to our service personnel. And right here in Central California, we need to make sure that no veteran becomes homeless, that all veterans receive the best medical care possible – and that each and every veteran is treated with the respect they’ve more than earned.
